Origin of the MarcorSEN name

MarcorSEN stands for Marcor Structural Expert Network. Early in my career, I recognized that I can't be the expert in everything, but I can "fill in the gaps" with other experts in order to solve any forensic problem I encounter. I included "Expert Network" in the name of my company because I make it a point to involve other experts in my work, whether that is electrical or mechanical engineers or even equine experts to supplement the investigation, or other structural and civil engineers to assist or peer review my work.

MarcorSEN also incorporates the history of my name and heritage. My name, "Marcor" is a Danish name, originally from "Marqvard." My ancestors included Marqvard Pedersen and his son Peder Marqvardsen. Peder's grandson, Marcor Hansen, following the Danish tradition, was surnamed after his father Hans Pedersen. Marcor was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints a week after his 19th birthday. He served a short mission in Denmark, and then decided to immigrate to the United States. His father Hans was worried that he would never see him again, and offered Marcor all of his considerable wealth if Marcor would stay in Denmark. Marcor declined the offer, stating "I had joined the [Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints], and I knew it was right; hence nothing could hinder me from going." He began his long journey on his 22nd birthday, never to return to Denmark. His father died 10 years later.

Somewhere along the trail to Utah, Marcor Hansen changed his name to Marcor Hansen Peterson to "Americanize" his last name. He served three missions - the short mission to Denmark, a mission to labor on the St. George, Utah, Temple, and a very long mission (61 years - the rest of his life) to help settle Eastern Arizona. He died at age 95 in the town he settled and helped build up (literally, as a brick mason), St. Johns, Arizona, with 118 living descendants. At his funeral, it was said that "Mr. Peterson is one man whom I never heard criticize anyone, and of whom I have never heard criticism."

MarcorSEN was named to honor my Danish heritage and this ancestor in particular for sacrificing wealth to live a life of hardship and poverty but also great joy because he knew it was right. Marcor Peterson and others like him laid the foundation to make America great; MarcorSEN is founded on "Excellence through Integrity" or dedication to these same principles.
